It came to my attention recently that it was June and I immediately demanded to know why I wasn't informed. Apparently the five or so "systrays" in my life don't scream times and dates at me sufficiently. I guess I'll have to start paying more attention to these things. So... we've started a "pilot project" to include those fancy, attention-grabbing score graphics with certain reviews. So far they have only been added to two reviews though and addressed in the FAQ. I'll ask the other two contributors what they think of the idea... if I ever see them again. Speaking of other contributors, we're starting to think about adding more authors/bloggers/reviewers. I haven't made up my mind by any stretch but things have been slow around here and in order for the site to be viable, content needs to flow from it. Our aspirations are fairly modest and it doesn't seem to me that striving for "semi-regular updates" is setting the bar too high. Still, adding more cooks to the kitchen is always a dicey operation. We'll see... |

Ahhh... do you smell that? It's like fresh ground coffee only better - fresh ground content! Mortley came out of hiding long enough to provide us with a review of Iron Man and it doesn't appear that his disappearance has done anything to normalize his view of the world. Still it's nice to have a film review on the site for something that was actually released during the current Democratic presidential candidate race. Next to GTA4, there's nothing fresher on the gaming front than id Software's announcement on Doom 4. Now Doom itself isn't the freshest cucumber in the crisper that's for sure but news is news right? Quebus has provided his take on this decision in his ongoing blog of that and other trivial nonsense. Where has Malakov gone? From what we hear, he is wrestling with a new rig that's misbehaving in addition to his usual "real life" drudgery. Hopefully when he gets his video situation sorted out he'll take a few minutes to review his new hardware... |

You know, I'm really worried that I'm going to burn all the best article names on news posts and then not have anything left for my blogs (when I get around to them). Oh well. So I see both Mortley and Malakov have checked in this week so clearly they must respond to being called "bozos". What remains unknown is whether they resemble or resent this remark. Mortley has provided us with a punchy review of the bang-up flick 28 Weeks Later. I haven't seen it but given I had to turn 28 Days Later off 30 minutes later (as in 30 mins after starting it), I can't imagine I'd want to revisit "ground zero" several weeks later to re-sniff what was already a pretty rancid fart. Malakov tore himself away from his flying wood elf (or whatever it is) just long enough to whine about being too busy to grace us with his presence. He has a shitty job, women problems, spends every moment he gets doing things he wants to do instead of things he should be doing and is generally confused about life - pfft. All that really tells me is that he doesn't have a vagina - congrats! I on the other hand, don't whine. I have legitimate problems. I can't shake the flu and I am back in what we are starting to call the "sandwich generation". Apparently this has nothing to do with a love for Quiznos Prime Rib sandwiches though. I'm told that I am a victim of the trend towards starting a family later in life, resulting in our being "sandwiched" between taking care of our kids and taking care of our parents. Yep, my dad is living with us again due to the comedy of his health and related health care (or lack thereof). That and I have a shitty job, women problems, spend every moment I get doing things I want to do instead of things I should be doing and am generally confused about life. Oh yeah, I bought an ASUS EEE PC too. |

So... I guess April is almost finished. Predictably, things have gotten slow and people have gotten extremely busy. As Canadians, there are these primal tendencies that must be served - the waking after a long winter of hibernation, scratching one's self and walking outside to see what the hell is going on. Spring is going on, that's what. In this neck of the woods that means yard work and plenty of it. As if the sheer quantity of work wasn't enough, there is the small matter of the window of opportunity in which to complete it. Once the pools are open, the patio furniture is out and the weather is conducive to barbecuing, you won't find anyone willing to do more than maintenance. In other words, if you have improvement projects or plain old "cleaning shit up" work on your mind, you have to get it done and quick. Oh yeah.. I've done a bit of blogging and stuff. Links are at the top of the page. |

I can't speak for the other two bozos that contribute to this mess but I can provide the three reasons why I haven't had much on the go of late: 1. Real Life 2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is proving much more of a handful than I expected; and 3. My EEE PC and I are getting to know one another better. I'm not going to bore anyone here with my personal life. If you really care, there are limited, dramatized snippets in the blog. Much to my discredit, I really did think I was going to be able to chew through STALKER fairly quickly/easily. I was very wrong. This game is very challenging, has a lot of content and actually is an RPG/shooter hybrid. I don't know about you but when I saw this game and heard it was calling itself an RPG I thought, "Suuuure it is". I figured the most RPG I could hope for would be Deus Ex (which really isn't that much) and that I would actually get more like Bioshock (which isn't any really). When a series of linear shooters have dulled your wit, a true RPG / shooter hybrid is tough to chew through but I will forge on. My EEE PC rocks for the most part. It isn't cooking my dinner or shoveling the driveway but to paraphrase Dennis Green, "It is what I thought it was". I do intend to provide a fairly thorough review soon but if you are expecting a device that is not quite a Blackberry or PDA and not quite a laptop but very close to all three, you'll get exactly what you are expecting. |
